- Frequently Asked Questions
Domain
name questions
Will
I be able to access my domain name with or without
the WWW?
Yes.
You will be able to access your domain name with or
without the WWW in front. For example, you could access
the domain name "mydomain.com" by going to "www.mydomain.com"
as well as "mydomain.com".
Can
I check domain name availability?
Yes.
You can check domain availability here.
Does UnlimitedWebHost.COM
handle domain registration?
Yes.
UnlimitedWebHost.COM will register new domain names
for you. If you have an existing domain we will attempt
to make the necessary changes in order to switch your
domain to our servers. Once the transfer is announced
"completed", there is generally a 72 hour propagation
period where visitors should be able to go to either
site. At the end of the 72 hours you should contact
the previous host to have them delete the old domain
from their records and update their DNS records. If
you use this same provider for your Internet access
you will not be able to access your domain site at
UnlimitedWebHost.COM until they update their DNS records.
During the propagation period, persons accessing your
site will be going to both sites until all are accessing
the new site.
Can
I transfer my existing domain name to UnlimitedWebHost.COM?
Yes.
When you place your order using our online order form,
be sure to specify that you are requesting a transfer
and NOT a new domain. You should keep the service
at the present site while waiting for the Domain Name
Registrar to complete the transfer. We will provide
you with a temporary IP address so you can mirror
the site on our server. All email and web pages will
still be accessed from the current site. How long
does it take before my domain name is active? We get
your account setup generally between a 12 hours up
to 24 hours. Once the account is setup we email you
your information so you can start uploading/publishing
your site. If this is a new domain registration, it
can take 24 hours for the domain name to be propogated
throughout the DNS servers around the world. If you
are transferring your domain from another host, once
the Domain Name Registrar announces that your domain
name has been transferred, it usually takes about
24 to 72 hours before it is active. All internet providers
must update their records (DNS tables) to reflect
new site locations. This is called propagation. One
way to tell if your domain name is pointing to our
servers yet is to PING the domain name from a command
prompt (PING your_domain.com). If the result shows
the IP we assigned you, then your domain is pointing
to our servers.
